early posters by Mcknight Kauffer

These posters are from the earliest period of Kauffer's career as a poster

designer. They are from 1915 through to 1924 which was the year that

Kauffer's Art of the Poster was published. The book was dedicated to

Frank Pick who was advertising manager of the companies that

would later be formed into London Transport. It was Pick who

commissioned these images from Kauffer.

The posters are for destinations around London where countryside

and history combine to provide a day out.

These posters are from the collection of a graphic designer who

collected them during the1930s. They have been kept in a plan-chest

and are in remarkable condition. Two of the posters have old tape

marks to the edges.
