Ravilious was a leading exponent of wood engraving in the 1920's.
He was taught by Paul Nash at the Royal College of Art and became
a close friend of Edward Bawden. Both artists, together with their
artist wives Tirzah Ravilious and Charlotte Bawden shared a
house at Great Bardfield in Essex. Ravilious became an official
war artist in 1940 and tragically failed to return from an air-sea
rescue mission off Iceland in 1942.
His sensitive and accomplished watercolours, drawings, book
illustrations and ceramic designs for Wedgwood have continued
to influence a generation of British design.
The Imperial War Museum in London organised a major retrospective
in 2004.
We are pleased to have the largest collection of original Ravilious designs
for Wedgwood available for sale.
